DIY Salt and Pepper Holder

This was another pretty simple project, and one that was really useful in our kitchen. We wanted a nice, pleasing-to-the-eye solution to store our salt and pepper shakers on the kitchen table. This salt and pepper holder is what we came up with.

The whole project was made primarily of a piece of scrap 2×10′ pine I had lying around. The only other thing that was really needed was some glue and a few pieces of dowel.

Unfortunately the design we came up with required us to use a few power tools that some people might not own. However, you could easily come up with your own design that requires basic hand tools or at the very least a few less power tools. The  tools I used were a scroll saw, table saw, drill, router table, and a band saw. Again, this could be done with way less tools if you just invest a little more time.

So far the design as held up perfectly and been quite the nice addition to our kitchen table. Rather than having the shakers sitting in random places on the table or allowing them to be susceptible to getting knocked over, they now sit nicely in their proper place.

It was a super fun build and while I made this over the course of about 2 days, it is a project that could easily be finished in one day.

Please take a few minutes and watch this video to see how we made ours and what the final creation looked like. Then we encourage you to think up a design of your own and then just dive right into making it. See what you can come up with. Be creative and then fall in love with what you’ve created. You’ll be glad that you did.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and watch the video.

We enjoy creating these fun and practical projects that we hope will inspire you to get out there and create as well. We also hope that you will share with us what you’ve created or just stop by and visit us on our social networking pages.
