Make Hand-Drawn MDF Letters

This particular project began with an idea for a Christmas gift. Every year for Christmas we draw names out of hat at our family’s Thanksgiving get-together. The loose rule is that the gifts must be handmade. In a previous video we made a photo plaque as one gift, which was for a nephew. The gift I personally made was for my sister.

I knew that I wanted to make her some large letters to hang on the wall, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do to make them different. Through a few not-so-slick texts from my wife we obtained her favorite Bible verses. What was given was 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. The Biblical text is based around the word love. It also just so happens that the word love has four letters and the scripture in question had four verses. So I decided to put each verse inside each of the four letters.

To make them a little more unique I decided to hand draw each letter instead of using a printed template. Here is the result and how I did it.

When it’s all said and done, this project is extremely simple and a bunch of fun. This may be a project we re-visit in the future with some different ideas.

Hopefully it inspired you to try something new as well. If it did, let us know in the comments below or share your project with us on Facebook or Google+. Also, if you would like to help support more DIY projects, like this one, please share this with your friends and family.
